Lada. Men know why.
![]() 07/04/2015 at 14:18 |

Ha. I love that picture. Lada: Everything’s a Parking Space.

I don’t just love that picture: I love that Niva! Or any other commie 4wd actually.
![]() 07/05/2015 at 22:31 |

Seriously. I’ve always really liked the 969M.
![]() 07/06/2015 at 02:48 |
|
969, at first I thought you were mentioning some sort of Porsche!
I’m a sucker for UAZ.
![]() 07/07/2015 at 01:02 |
|
Ha. Definitely not a Porsche. A LuAZ.
The UAZs are amazing, too. I love that van. I’m surprised it even needs the chains.
![]() 07/07/2015 at 02:14 |

The van is epic. Went to Cuba once, their army rides the UAZ-469 and that’s a way better color for it then that yellow:
![]() 07/07/2015 at 14:48 |
|
Wow, when were you in Cuba? It’s looking like in the future, us Americans will actually be able to go again. I’ve always wanted to do it. My brother and I almost made the trip by flying from Canada, but it didn’t work out. People get excited by all the old American cars, but I’d be more interested in the weird Commie stuff or the customized Panhards. This just gets me giddy.
I actually like that yellow UAZ. Kind of swanky with the two-tone.

I think that was bout 2004. Just after a big Hurricane. Hardly warm water, even in our Havana hotel. All kinds of telephone poles still blocking the roads. And registering the license plate of your rental car (Suzuki Vitara!) in old school notebooks. I even tried to get one of the registrars to tell me what he would do with that book after it got full (that must have taken him ages!) but he just wouldn’t know. Hahaha...
Had a real nice chat with a guy with VW Karmann Ghia I. He got his parts from Mexico. And we ended up in some sort of car-museum but that was truly pathetic. I bet none of those were even capable of driving, that bad they looked.
![]() 07/07/2015 at 23:21 |
|
Ha. That’s great. Sounds like it was a fun adventure. I really wonder how that place will change in the years ahead. Could be radical, or could be minor. I’ve been to Panama and we flew over Cuba on the way. That’s the closest I’ve been.
![]() 07/08/2015 at 01:59 |

Most impressive fact, at first, is that all people seem to be quite happy with the situation. All friendly, smiling. And in fact they could be. Just all technology and tourism will learn them there’s something “better” not far away, both in time and distance...
So go as soon as possible!
![]() 07/09/2015 at 01:52 |
|
You’re right, now’s the time to go. Every Cuban-American I’ve known has been really nice, so I’m not surprised they’re friendly down there. I imagine they are in for some culture shock, but it’s not like they’re all that isolated like other Communist countries.
![]() 07/09/2015 at 02:28 |
|
What other Communist countries do you mean? I think only North-Korea is actually isolated. Albania is even trying to enter the EU!
![]() 07/09/2015 at 02:51 |
|
True. There aren’t many Communist countries left. Maybe Albania could replace Greece. Seems about right.
![]() 07/09/2015 at 03:20 |
|
Somehow I don’t think Greece is leaving the EU. They’ll find some solution. They have to. Think about Putin.
![]() 07/09/2015 at 15:40 |
|
I’m no expert, but it seems like the best thing for everyone might be returning to the Drachma. It would make my dream of importing a Greek Fuldamobil a lot easier.
I’m sick of thinking about Putin.
![]() 07/10/2015 at 05:17 |
|
Oh I totally agree on the fact Greece should get out the Euro, better: I don’t understand why they were ‘let in’ in the first place. Everybody knew the Greeks had been window-dressing like hell to be able to meet Euro-demands. And after all hell broke loose we (the EU) ‘lent’ them another gazillion euros. But cleaning up there mess (they get their pensions at the age of 51 or something, no one pays taxes, corruption all over the governmental organisations): No. It’s some sort of a 3rd world country!
But it’s a strategic buffer to the east. And a left-wing socialists party in power. So...
![]() 07/10/2015 at 15:10 |
|
Yeah, it seems like everyone knew it was a bad idea, but I guess the plan was that they’d rise to the level of the other EU countries, or something. But, those Greeks pride themselves on not paying taxes. It’s a badge of honor. It is like a third world country. A very pretty one, though.
![]() 07/10/2015 at 16:24 |

Ever been there? Hey, what’s that: a Dino Review ????
![]() 07/12/2015 at 00:34 |
|
I haven’t been to Greece, no. My parents went on a cruise a couple years ago and enjoyed it. Although, I think my dad got a bigger kick out of Turkey.
I saw that. Funny enough, the fellow who wrote that also has a Panhard. Or, his father does, or something. He has another post where he mentions it. I’ve never driven a Dino, but that video he posted is amazing and now I must find one to drive.
![]() 07/12/2015 at 08:09 |
|
Well, it seems the smaller EU-countries are fed-up with the Greeks after all. It’ll probably end up with Greece being kicked out the EU temporarily.
His father also has an A110 IIRC. I’ve had several “discussions” with him, one about the A310 being the last “true” Alpine (he disagrees, says the GTA was just as “Rédelé-esque” as the A310). But he’s a cool guy. Just those rear-lights are fugly, he really should get original ones. He asked me for a window-wiper motor/assembly. And if you’re in Holland you’ll get to drive a Dino ;-)
![]() 07/12/2015 at 20:57 |
|
Those taillights are really ugly. He apparently doesn’t think much of the Panhard, so I’ll reserve my judgement until I know more about him.
We all know the U.S. spec GTA is the last true Alpine. Or the R5.
Oh, you don’t say? Do I have to buy the gas?
![]() 07/13/2015 at 03:28 |
|
Hahaha, that US spec GTA...
You did know I have one of those as well, didn’t you? It was on my moving-card for god’s sake!
![]() 07/13/2015 at 17:13 |
|
Yeah, that was my joke. I should have been more obvious about it. Have you shown me a picture of it? I’ve always loved those cars. They turn up for sale around here every so often, but prices keep going up like the guy said. Finally they’re getting the respect they deserve.
![]() 07/14/2015 at 02:02 |
|
As it’s been in my possession for ages now I don’t have a lot of pictures of it digital. Yep: Back then a digital camera or even a camera-phone wasn’t standard. This is it prior to my buy from a museum (not the best picture in the world):
Bought it for not even 5k euros. Last bid I got was 20k, didn’t even have to get it running again for that kind of money ;-)
![]() 07/14/2015 at 02:28 |
|
Sure looks great. That’s a good color for it and I’m not the biggest fan of silver/gray usually. Yeah, <5K euros is like you stole it. What is its status now?
I know what you mean about pictures. I realize all the time that I have very few photos of the all the cars I owned before I had a digital camera. But, now I take pictures all the time of my cars. And my cat.
![]() 07/14/2015 at 02:40 |
|
The status is that I haven’t touched it for years, I really need to get it running again. TOO MANY PROJECTS! The color isn’t bad, I’m not a big fan of silver either but this is a slightly darker gray-ish silver. Originally the car was blue though. See that Montreal behind it? Was offered as well, same price. Should have bought them both ;-)
SHOW US YOUR CAT! And isn’t it passed bedtime for you?
![]() 07/14/2015 at 02:48 |
|
Oh, the blue would be beautiful. Get it running! How much advance notice do you need to get it ready when I visit?
Holy cow, a Montreal and a Dino for less than 10 grand? Wow. What a collection you’d have. I think you got the better car, though. I think.
It’s not even midnight here. I’m still watching The Tonight Show.
![]() 07/14/2015 at 02:59 |
|
None. I’ve got a friend with a running Dino ( showed that one on Oppo once ). He also has a 928. We can probably catch up with him.
There was no doubt in what car I’d have to chose between those two. But both of them would have been epic.
Love Jimmy Fallon. Love the Roots. Love the way that cat of yours is taking all the abuse with that Rhino and brown thing on it’s back. How do you sleep at night, cats always get their revenge!
![]() 07/14/2015 at 03:10 |
|
Oh, good. Sounds like that car is kept up. And, I like the green, too. It’s hard to get that car to look, or sound, bad.
Jimmy is very funny. He’s always so enthusiastic and that Higgins makes me laugh.
She’ll let me do anything as long as she gets her cat treats and I jiggle a string for her to play with once in a while.
![]() 07/14/2015 at 04:01 |
|
He just overhauled his carburetors. Leo is a great guy. Daily Drives an old Range Rover. Has a TR6 as well. Lives in a farm in a typical Dutch rural area. Lots of farms. Lots of cows.
That keyboard player of the Roots is epic. Truly love those “thank you”-notes. Did you get Jimmy’s book ‘Da-da’?
And she’s keeping an eye on your stack of DVDs in the process. Epic beast.
![]() 07/14/2015 at 17:54 |
|
Sounds like he’s living the life. I wouldn’t mind retiring to a cow farm filled with old cars.
I didn’t get Jimmy’s book because I don’t have kids, but you should. All of the Roots are so good. I always liked their music and it was a stroke of genius making them the house band. ?uestlove is not only a terrific drummer, but he is an encyclopedia of great music. He’s aways had terrific taste. I love reading interviews with him where he talks about music he likes because it usually lines up with my taste. A couple weeks ago, they started the show by playing a different Devo song every night. Brilliant.
![]() 07/15/2015 at 02:24 |
|
He wouldn’t mind either but not with kids in the house. Kids need their stuff (school, friends, sports) nearby, not for their parents to get them there...
If I’d run into one I’d get it! Devo I’m not that familiar with, I know “Whip it” but that’s as far as it goes. I learned about “The Roots” while in Mexico. I was traveling back from some cenote-diving while the busdriver listened to a radio station which used the guitar-riff of “The Seed 2.0” and I was blown away, had to try it (and have done a lot since). After finding out what it was I listened to the song, heard the lyrics and was blown away again: EPIC! “I put my seed somewhere deep in her chest!” And all this not with your normal rapping agression but with a lovely and friendly sounding up-tempo song! Since then I’m hooked.
![]() 07/15/2015 at 18:23 |
|
I’ve been a huge Devo fan since I was a kid, so it was exciting. Part of the fun of the Roots for me has always been all the references to other musicians and songs they make. They’re like walking encyclopedias of popular music of all kinds. And terrific musicians.
![]() 07/16/2015 at 02:05 |
|
Skilled musicians indeed. I really like the way they “blend in” in the Tonight Show, they’re just part of it. We’re a “few days behind” over here (we had the episode with Tina Fey / Amy Poehler yesterday) so it’s not entirely up-to-date though.
![]() 07/16/2015 at 03:26 |
|
Having them as a house band was a stroke of genius. I’ve enjoyed it since his old show. That doesn’t sound like you’re behind. We just had that one, too. Those ladies are funny. I’ve been watching Tina’s new show on Netflix, The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt. It’s hilarious.
![]() 07/16/2015 at 04:03 |
|
Ha, another one added to my watchlist, thanks! I’m sort of afraid of Amy Poehler. In a good way. Tina is awesome, loved 30 rock.
![]() 07/16/2015 at 14:26 |
|
30 Rock is one of the best sitcoms of all time. Pure brilliance. Making Alec Baldwin a comedian was a stroke of genius. If you liked that, you’ll like Kimmy Schmidt. Same type of humor.
![]() 07/17/2015 at 04:20 |
|
Hey, that Kimmy-girl is that girl from The Office US, Erin! The Office, another epic series. So true about Alec Baldwin by the way.
![]() 07/17/2015 at 10:31 |
|
She plays a very similar character to Erin. She’s really hilarious. I used to love the Office. A terrific collection of characters. I miss that show. Creed was a favorite of mine always.
![]() 07/17/2015 at 12:09 |
|
Haha, Creed was awesome indeed. Best one for me is Rainn Wilson though. With his Trans Am. True Hero.
![]() 07/18/2015 at 02:43 |
|
He was hilarious. That car was so perfect. They were going to do a spin-off show about Dwight and his beet farm, but it never got picked up.
![]() 07/18/2015 at 05:35 |
|
I liked him in “the Rocker” as well. Hilarious. I would love to see more of his beet farm, his retarded cousin or brother is so terrifying...
![]() 07/19/2015 at 20:52 |
|
The Rocker was surprisingly good. I liked that movie. It didn’t do much business because it didn’t look all that good in the trailers.
Haha. I almost forgot about Mose. Loved his beard.
![]() 07/20/2015 at 03:14 |
|
You really think trailers are that “powerful”? I didn’t hear anything about it, I even doubt it was released in the cinema over here. But the moment I saw a picture of Rainn all ‘80’s sweaty drumming I couldn’t resist: this one will be epic.
Haha, Mose. So was he Dwight’s brother or cousin?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 00:14 |
|
Well, sometimes you can tell a lot from a trailer. You figure they put the best clips in the trailer, so if there isn’t anything good, then the movie must suck. But, you can definitely make a good trailer from a bad movie.
Mose was his cousin. I don’t remember how they ended up starting the beet farm.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 02:15 |
|
I suppose you’re right about that trailer-part. Can’t remember the Rocker-trailer. Or even why I wanted to watch it. Probably just because of Rainn Wilson.
Wasn’t the beet farm just something that has been in the Schrute-family? Loved the way he turned it into a B&B!
![]() 07/21/2015 at 02:56 |
|
I don’t really remember too much about that trailer either other than it didn’t get me to go see the movie. But, then I watched it on cable and really liked it.
I guess it was the Schrute family farm. I liked when Dwight kidnapped Angela at the wedding in the finale. That show was funny until the end.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 03:38 |

I still haven’t completed it, think I got stuck somewhere in S06 or 7. The moment Steve Carrell got out I think.
Did you ever see the original British series?
![]() 07/21/2015 at 14:25 |
|
It’s not quite as good without Michael, but it’s still funny. All the other people are still there. Although, they added the British comedian Catherine Tate and then didn’t know what to do with her. But, plenty of good Dwight moments.
The original British show was brilliant. 10 times more uncomfortable. I’m not the biggest Ricky Gervais fan, but that program was his masterpiece. Extras was also fun, but I think it was mostly made so he could hang out with people more famous than him.
![]() 07/21/2015 at 17:43 |
|
Oh, it’s not that I won’t watch it because Michael is gone (although I’m a big fan of Steve Carell), it just got out of my system.
Another great British show is ‘The IT Crowd’, you definitely have to watch that (if you hadn’t already).
And one thing you’ll have to see is... Kung Fury ! That’s one epic trailer!!!
![]() 07/22/2015 at 00:51 |
|
I love the IT Crowd. Moss is one of the best characters ever. Everything he says makes me laugh. I’ve seen King Fury. It’s absurd. Did you watch the whole movie? They showed it on cable over here.
If you like IT Crowd and King Fury, you should give Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace a try. The guy who plays Moss co-created it and it has the boss from IT Crowd. And, it’s a ridiculous 80’s spoof.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 03:48 |
|
Haven’t watched it completely, a friend of mine showed this to me monday and yes: I like what I’m seeing. Kung Führer! So I’ll get to see this Darkplace of yours somehow.
Speaking of the boss of IT Crowd: the first boss was so cool jumping out of the window after the feds showed up at the reception down stairs, just claiming: ‘Okay that’s it: Goodbye’!
![]() 07/23/2015 at 02:27 |
|
That was a great scene. I had no idea that was going to happen. It was so absurd, but perfect for that guy. He was really funny, too.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 08:20 |
|
I truly was blown away by that scene, it truly was the series’ best one. Or maybe the scene in which Roy says to Moss ‘We need to do something’ (or something like that) when the police is driving by (and they just helped with some robbery): Moss just starts kissing Roy. Hahaha. Awesome. Absurd indeed.
![]() 07/24/2015 at 00:21 |
|
Oh, man. I laughed so hard at that kissing scene. It just keeps going and getting funnier. They somehow stumble into helping a robbery because they want to hang out with cool people, right? That episode was brilliant.
![]() 07/24/2015 at 04:44 |
|
Haha, yeah that was the one. Too bad it only aired 3 seasons. They should really do more.
![]() 07/24/2015 at 23:27 |
|
Classic gif. Weren't there four seasons? You may have a bunch of episodes left to watch.
![]() 08/08/2015 at 16:36 |
|
EPIC! I see there’s a hiatus after S03 (2008), that’s why I thought back then it just ended. There’s an extra season. S05 is just one Episode?
![]() 08/10/2015 at 00:27 |
|
Oh, I haven’t seen the season 5 episode. Maybe they did a finale. Now I have something new to watch. Season 4 actually feels slightly different than the rest of them. They had started to become bigger stars by then. The woman who played Jen does serious acting now. She’s on this t.v. show we’re getting now about robots called Humans. And Moss is a director and Roy sometimes acts with an American accent.
